Background to Hospitality Guru
Jean's passion for the hospitality industry was ignited at the Illkirsch College, in France where he qualified with a Waitron and Bartender degree in 1993.
Jean moved to London in 1994, where he accumulated seven years of invaluable experience at establishments like the Tsar Bar at The Langham Hilton, The American Bar at The Stafford Hotel and the Putney Bridge Bar and Restaurant in south-west London.
The Tsars Bar, Langham Hilton - London
The Tsars Bar at the Langham Hilton is renowned for its selection of over 100 vodkas. In his year at the bar, Jean had the opportunity to develop and refine his knowledge of spirits: vodka being only one of many.
The American Bar, The Stafford Hotel - London
Jean also spent two and a half years at The American Bar at The Stafford Hotel. In 1997, while Jean was one of the managers there, the bar was voted 2nd best hotel bar in the world by the Gourmet Magazine and ranked 5th by the Hideaway Report in the same year.
The American Bar is not only renowned for its world famous Martinis, but also for its impeccable service.
Putney Bridge Bar - London
Jean then moved onto the Putney Bridge Bar where he reinforced the bar's service levels by implementing new training programs. Jean worked closely with the bar's marketing and public relations staff in achieving their goal of targeting a trendier clientele.
Bascule, Cape Grace - Cape Town
In 2001 Jean left the UK to follow his South African born wife to Cape Town. Jean was offered the opportunity of managing the Cape Grace's whisky bar, Bascule.
Within a year, Bascule was Cape Town's most popular hotel bar. Jean created a truly unique experience with the introduction of an international DJ every Friday, while generating revenues exceeding those of a 5-star hotel bar.
